Travelling to the Games from around Scotland

Getting to the venue from the city centre

Details of local transport arrangements for the SECC Precinct are set out below. Also please refer to Getting to Glasgow section for details on the best way to travel to Glasgow during the Games.

Walking to the venue in 30 minutes

The walk from the city centre will be a great way to soak up the atmosphere. Games Time volunteers called clyde-siders will be on hand to help you every step of the way. The 1.7 miles journey takes approximately 35 minutes to walk.

The preferred route is:

Head south on George Square toward Cochrane St - Turn right to stay on George Square - Continue towards Buchanan Street - Turn left onto Buchanan Street - Continue through St Enoch Square - Turn right onto Broomielaw - Continue onto Finnieston Quay - Continue onto Congress Rd – Pedestrian Screening Area / Entrance on right

Why not cycle? It’s only 11 minutes from the city centre

The SECC Precinct is an 11 minute cycle from the city centre.

The recommended cycle route is as follows:

Head south on South Frederick St toward Ingram St - Turn left onto Ingram St - Turn right onto Glassford St - Continue onto Stockwell Street -Turn right onto Howard Street - Left onto Dunlop Street - Turn right onto Clyde Place - Turn left onto NCN75 - (Use Toucan Crossing at Oswald Street) - Continue on NCN75 - Continue onto Lancefield Quay - Turn right onto Finnieston Street - Turn left onto Stobcross Road - Cycle Parking on right within car park .  There is space for 150 cycles.

Travelling by rail – city centre to nearby stations in five minutes

The Exhibition Centre railway station serves the SECC Precinct and is about 10 minutes’ walk from the venue.

From Glasgow city centre:

All westbound services from Glasgow Central Low Level call at Exhibition Centre.

From South Lanarkshire:

Services from Lanark, Motherwell and Larkhall call at Exhibition Centre en route to Milngavie/Dalmuir.

ScotRail will provide up to double its normal number of carriages on key routes, but remember to allow time for the queuing systems that will be in place at the busiest stations to help journeys run safely and smoothly. Travel on a specific service is not guaranteed and should be considered when planning journey.

Travelling by bus – city to venue in 20 minutes

The SECC Precinct is well served by multiple bus routes with several bus stops in close proximity to the venue. Remember use of the bus is included in the cost of your event ticket.

From Hope Street at Glasgow Central train station take First Bus service 2 to St Vincent Street before Elliot Street, approximately 12 minutes’ walk to SECC precinct.

From Union St at Glasgow Central Station take McGills services 23, 23A or 26 to Pacific Drive at BBC.

Approximately 15 minutes’ walk to SECC precinct.

Subway – city centre to nearby stations in 10 minutes

There are two city centre Subway stations St. Enoch and Buchanan Street. It takes just 24 minutes to complete a full circuit of all 15 stations.

From these stations take Subway to Cessnock Station, 20 minutes’ walk to the SECC Precinct or to Kelvinhall Station, 35 minutes’ walk to the SECC Precinct.

Leave your car behind!

You are advised not to drive to the SECC Precinct. 

Parking around the venue is strictly reserved for residents and local businesses only. There are no set down/pick up points. Roads will be busy and subject to closures and restrictions. 

Blue Badge holders should visit here to book parking.

So leave your car behind and make use of the many other transport options available.
